Note: Aha! accounts created on or after February 1, 2023 will not have access to mockups. Instead, use whiteboards to collaborate and visualize your ideas.

Aha! Roadmaps | Create flowcharts in the mockups tool

The Aha! Roadmaps mockup tool is a powerful option for not only creating design mockups but also easily creating flowcharts or user flow diagrams. Flowcharts are a great way to create a clear visualization of what may have previously been a complex process or concept.

You can also create flowcharts using whiteboards.

Just like mockups, flowcharts can be created throughout Aha! Roadmaps anywhere that you can add an attachment by clicking the Create mockup link. You will need to have owner or contributor user permissions in your account to add mockups to a feature. Users with reviewer access have limited access to the mockup tool. Reviewers can only use the mockup tool when logging comments.

How it works

Flowcharts can be created using the mockup tool, which is found next to the Attach files option on a feature card. Simply click Create mockup to launch the mockup tool.

To create flowcharts, you should first enable Connection Arrows and Connection Points. These two options are located under the View dropdown.

Once enabled, you can quickly build out a flowchart using the arrow option that appears next to each shape that you add. The option allows you to quickly create a copy of the selected object with a connector arrow automatically drawn to it. You can also perform a Shift + Click action to only draw the connector line, which is helpful if you wish to make a connection to a different flowchart shape.

There is an entire library of flowchart shapes available by default along the left-hand navigation under the Flowchart section heading. You can also add additional UI elements from the More Shapes link towards the bottom of the page.

When interacting with shapes on the canvas, contextual editing and formatting options appear in the right-side panel, allowing you to quickly customize the shapes to your specifications.

  • Style: Allows the manipulation of the shape's color among other visual options.

  • Text: Provides text formatting functionality such as font type, typographical emphasis, and positioning.

  • Arrange: Allows precise control over pixel size and pixel positioning as well as the ability to move a shape forward or backwards in mockup layers.

Changes are automatically saved 15 seconds after your last revision. When you are done working, you can close the browser tab or the File Exit option and return to where you previously were in Aha! Roadmaps.

Upon returning to Aha! Roadmaps, the flowchart will appear as an attachment. You and your team can access and edit the flowchart by opening the attachment and clicking the blue Edit Mockup button. Other Aha! Roadmaps users with product owner or contributor access can collaborate with you on your flowchart to provide feedback or additional thoughts.

You can restore prior versions of a mockup through the attachment preview. To view and restore previous versions, click the More options button in the upper right-hand corner of the preview window. Then, click the Version History option and choose a version that you'd like to restore.

Once complete, your mockup can be exported directly into Aha! Roadmaps presentations to quickly share designs with your various stakeholder groups.
