Aha! Develop | Velocity report (Advanced plan)

Plan sprints more accurately and understand team capacity with the velocity report. You can view average team velocity (in time or story points) on the sprint planning board or use historical data to compare what was planned versus completed per sprint in the full report.

If you have integrated Aha! Roadmaps into your Aha! Develop account at the Enterprise+ level, the team capacity report will reflect your teams' velocity automatically, and link back to this report for more detail.

If you have chosen to enable team member capacity for your sprint planning, each individual's capacity will be calculated based on their average velocity over the last three sprints.

View average team velocity

When you are planning a sprint you can view capacity guidance based on your team's average velocity over the past six sprints. Navigate to Plans Sprint planning and create a new sprint to see it in action.

Before you start the sprint, you will see your team's Average estimate completed on the right side of the sprint. The estimate will be in either Days or Points, depending on the capacity planning units you have selected in Settings ⚙️ Team Capacity planning Units for estimates. For more detail, click See velocity to access the velocity report.

If a team member completes a record sooner than estimated — if the Actual effort is less than Detailed estimate — you can decide whether the velocity report should add any remaining estimate as logged effort, or ignore it.

Create a velocity report

To view your velocity report, navigate to Reports Velocity.

  • Select a sprint from the Sprint dropdown.

  • By default, you will see data based on the previous six sprints for all team members, using the capacity planning units you have selected for your team.

  • Optionally, filter the chart by Time period to analyze more or fewer sprints. Choose from a predefined interval of 6 weeks, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. Or set a custom start date. The chart will always show data up to the current date.

  • Optionally, select a specific team member from the Team member filter.

Use the velocity report

The velocity report shows many points or days your team committed to compared with what they completed for each sprint in the report's Time period. It will also show Actual effort logged against those point- or time-based estimates.

  • At the top of the chart, review at-a-glance your team's High and Low completed values and the Average estimates completed in Days or Points.

  • Hover over a data point to see a summary of that sprint — estimates your team committed to, estimates completed, and estimates incomplete.

  • Click on any Sprint to see more details. Once you do, a pre-built list report will open in a new tab with all related Records, record Statuses, and their associated Event type — records added, removed, completed, or with changed Estimates. You can adjust this list report for further analysis, then close the tab when you are ready to return to the original report.
