View Submitted Ideas By Individuals

by Claire George

What is a customer, really? The literal definition is anyone who buys products or services from a business — but for many companies, it can also refer to the overall organization that an individual person belongs to. When you are reviewing feedback, it is important to consider both levels so you can gain a full understanding of what your customers need. We recently gave you the ability to view ideas by organization. Now you can go even deeper into what people want.

You can now use contact records in Aha! Ideas to capture additional details about each person who has submitted feedback and see all the ideas they have voted on.

Before we get into the details of what's new, let's quickly go over what "contacts" are in Aha! software. This record type refers to anyone who provides feedback — including customers, partners, and employees. Most contacts are added when people log in to an ideas portal for the first time or when a proxy vote is submitted on a customer's behalf. But you can also create contacts individually or via CSV import.

Up until today, you could only capture each person's name and email address. Now you can store as much information as you like. Think of this as mini-CRM functionality. You can also see a detailed view of ideas that the individual voted on and which channels they use to provide input — whether via ideas portals, empathy sessions, or in-app feedback widgets.

We also streamlined how you manage contacts. A new contacts page makes it easy to find the person you want. See the details anywhere the person's name is referenced — such as the contacts tab of an organization record — so you can better understand who they are and what they need.

Enhanced contact records are available for customers in the Ideas Advanced plan. This plan is ideal for organizations that want to expand the way they collect feedback, engage users in live conversation, and analyze feedback trends. If you would like to trial this advanced functionality in your Aha! Roadmaps account, just email us at support@aha.io so we can help you get started.

Here is how to gain rich insights into the needs of individual customers:

Enhance your contact record

Deepen your understanding of who is giving feedback. Create a custom layout for contacts and add as many custom fields as you want. This allows you to document additional attributes about each person. Here, we are capturing job title, department, location, and a profile picture. We also used a predefined tags field to identify any groups a user belongs to that might give us added context — such as customer advisory boards and early access or beta programs.

Import CRM-like data about your contacts using their email address as the unique identifier.

Track what each person wants

Gain a holistic picture of what matters most to each individual and what you have already delivered for them. You can see popular ideas, recently voted on ideas, and recently shipped ideas by person. This data includes any requests a person voted on directly and any proxy votes captured on their behalf. Open a report for even more details about each person's feedback.

Analyze feedback by attribute

Report on ideas across different groups of people. In the example below, we created a pivot report to understand which ideas matter to the people on our customer advisory board. This gives us insights into the collective needs of the group — so we can have an informed conversation about their priorities.

Filter your reports by attribute to understand feedback trends across specific groups of people.

Enrich your feedback data with important attributes about each person to gain a deeper understanding of who your customers are and what they need.

We are passionate about equipping your team with the best possible ways to gather feedback and analyze customer insights. This update gives you even more flexibility to organize your ideas data. From interpreting macro feedback trends to focusing on requests by organization and individual, our powerful data model lets you go as broad or as detailed as you need.
