Import existing ideas and features directly onto whiteboards

by Claire George

You are brainstorming solutions to a customer problem. But before thinking up new approaches, you want to see whether there are any relevant ideas in your backlog. So you run a search right from your whiteboard and add a few items to consider — in just a couple of clicks. You can now bring the team together to discuss your options. Sound appealing? If so, today's update is for you.

Quickly search for and add existing records (such as ideas, features, and initiatives) to your whiteboard while actively working on it.

Today's update expands your options for populating whiteboards with existing work items in Aha! Roadmaps or Aha! Ideas. You could already export list reports, pivot tables, and prioritization views to add multiple items in one go. Adding records individually by copying and pasting the URL was also possible. This new option enables you to import records from your whiteboard without ever having to navigate away.

Start by opening the Shapes menu in the whiteboard toolbar, then select the new Aha! record option. Enter a search term, select the work items you want, and click Add records to insert them onto your whiteboard. If you need to run multiple search terms, add your selections to a running list of records and import them all at once. (The search results only include records that you have permission to view).

In the example below, the product team is brainstorming ways to improve GPS functionality for our fictitious Fredwin Cycling application. We quickly check to see whether there are any ideas or features in our backlog to consider, then add relevant ones right to the whiteboard. From here, team members can add new ideas and vote for the ones they want to prioritize for delivery.

Click on any Aha! record to view and edit the details right on your whiteboard.

Bring existing work items into your brainstorming and planning sessions — so the team can explore the best approach and move forward with confidence.

Why start brainstorming from scratch? We hope this update makes it easier for you to jump-start your process. And if your team does think up new ideas, convert them into records straight from your whiteboard. When you are ready, you can fill in the details and incorporate them into your bold plans.
