Elevate Your Planning With Updated Gantt Charts

by Claire George

Did you know Gantt charts have been around for more than 100 years? They have come a long way since Henry Gantt introduced them in 1910. Modern Gantt charts are one of the most widely used tools for visualizing complex project plans with multiple dependencies. Of course, even complex plans need to be easy to read and understand. This is why we continue to make updates and enhancements to Gantt charts in our software.

Today, Gantt charts in Aha! Roadmaps have a fresh new look — including updated styling, new progress indicators, and enhanced dependency visualizations.

The first thing you will see when you view the updated design is improved readability, thanks to better use of vertical space. This makes it easier for folks to read and absorb all the details in your plan. We also added new progress indicators next to each release, phase, and feature name — so you can better see how work is moving along.

Dependencies also got a refresh. You will notice that the gray connector lines between features have a more contemporary feel. Hover over any bar on the chart and drag the copy link icon to create a new dependency. Use the trash icon to quickly remove links between work items.

As part of today's update, we also made it possible to add custom fields to release phases — a request we heard from many of you. Add custom fields (such as phase owner or status) to help you track projects and build reports.

The updated design is now live for all Gantt charts and strategy roadmaps. It has also been automatically applied to existing views.

Let's take a closer look:

Manage detailed releases

Imagine you are managing a cross-functional release with several dependencies. The Gantt chart below helps everyone understand the plan from start to finish. Notice the extra vertical space, new donut progress indicators on the left, and the updated dependency connectors. Together, these enhancements make the chart easier to scan and absorb — so the team can keep track of shared progress.

Click on a release, epic, phase, or feature name to open up its details drawer.

A beautiful Gantt chart helps you build and communicate sophisticated cross-functional plans.

Give the new Gantts some love. And be sure to also check out the recent custom roadmaps refresh. We are not done beautifying our roadmaps — keep an eye out for the features roadmap refresh coming soon.
