Better Capacity Planning for Teams

by Claire George

Roadmap success depends on your ability to deliver the work you have promised within a given time frame. This is why we provide powerful capacity planning for teams in Aha! Roadmaps. You can create team-based estimates and then analyze the overall workload to ensure your plan is realistic. How do you know if you have accounted for everything? Today's enhancement helps you answer that question.

View unassigned work in Aha! Roadmaps on the capacity report for teams — so you can quickly estimate the work and complete your planning.

Power users of the capacity report know it provides valuable insights into the utilization of each team's time. You can see which teams are available or overcapacity, so you can proactively address resource issues before they happen. You could already view any work that is estimated but not yet scheduled on the report. Now you can also view any unassigned work too. This way, you can quickly update the plan to accurately reflect everything the team needs to deliver.

Capacity planning for teams is especially beneficial for large organizations with many strategic workstreams. That is why it is included in the Aha! Roadmaps Enterprise+ plan. This plan is for organizations that demand the most sophisticated capabilities and a hands-on level of support from our concierge team. The plan also includes advanced security and backup features, as well as ongoing training services.

Let's take a closer look at the improvements:

Quickly account for unassigned work

Go ahead and build a capacity report to visualize the workload across teams by initiatives, epics, or features. Then review the unassigned section of the report to fill in any gaps. In the example below, we are viewing work across features. You can see that there is one feature that has been scheduled for delivery in September but is not yet assigned. So we create an advanced estimate directly from the report and assign the work to the red team based on their available capacity.

Comprehensive resource planning is fundamental to achieving your product roadmap.

We hope today's update will help you proactively spot and address any gaps in your plan. Having a clear understanding of the work that needs to be done empowers you to solve capacity issues before they arise — so you can accomplish everything you set out to achieve.
