Aha! Launches New Fully Extendable Agile Development Tool

by Brian de Haaff

Every software development team works differently. From the way you apply agile methods to your ecosystem of tools, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. This is why we built Aha! Develop — a fully extendable agile development tool that puts engineering teams in control of the way you work. Over the past few months, we gathered feedback from hundreds of users in our early access program. And now we are ready to share Aha! Develop with teams everywhere.

Today, we are excited to announce the general availability of Aha! Develop — a fully extendable development tool for agile software developers.

Aha! Develop gives you everything you need in an agile development tool — sprint planning, kanban boards, collaborative workflows, and a wiki-like knowledge base. What makes it unique is the ability to fully customize how you work with extensions. Choose from a growing library or write your own extensions to update the UI, create your own workflows, and automation actions with other systems.

If you already use our roadmapping software, you can enable Aha! Develop in the same account. This way, you can create a unified environment for product management and development teams to work closely together. Each team gets a dedicated space for planning and managing work, but the underlying data is always the same — keeping everyone perfectly in sync.

To learn more about about Aha! Develop, join our live product event on August 25 with Aha! co-founder and CTO Dr. Chris Waters. Chris will show you how to customize Aha! Develop to make it your own. You will also get a chance to see the tight integration between Aha! Roadmaps and Aha! Develop.

Aha! Develop comes with two plan options — Develop Essentials and Develop Advanced. Develop Essentials includes unlimited extensions and everything you need to manage backlogs, coordinate sprints, optimize your workflow, and share knowledge. Develop Advanced is for more sophisticated teams that would benefit from an Aha! Roadmaps integration plus additional functionality that is coming soon — such as single sign-on, automation, and analytics.

Let's take a closer look at what you can do with Aha! Develop:

Work the way you want

Create as many teams as you need and easily customize everything — from terminology to statuses, fields, and layouts. Then add extensions to go even further. In the example below, we created a planning poker extension to help developers effectively estimate work. The possibilities are endless — if you can imagine it, you can write the code to make it so.

Extensions are open source, quick to customize and install, and free to use.

Streamline backlog management

Capture everything that needs to get done in a central location. Organize epics, user stories, and tasks into backlogs and rank them in priority order. You can also bring in work — such as issues and support tickets — from other systems using importer extensions. In the example below, we pull in an issue from a project backlog in Jira.

Use custom fields to capture additional information that matters to your team.

Optimize your workflow

Choose between a variety of views to effectively plan and manage work. The sprint planning view is perfect for scheduling upcoming iterations and managing the team's capacity. Kanban fans will love the interactive workflow boards. Add as many columns as you need to visualize the status of everything that is prioritized — keeping the team focused and on track.

Use comments and to-dos to keep work moving forward.

Build a knowledge base

Create and share technical documentation. The flexible notes hierarchy makes it easy to organize information in a logical way — so teammates can quickly find what they need. Rich formatting and real-time collaborative editing capabilities help you document everything from architectural frameworks to DevOps runbooks and meeting agendas with exceptional clarity.

You can also create personal notes in Aha! Develop for work that is only relevant to you.

Unify your product development environment

Existing Aha! customers can enable Aha! Develop in their account to create an integrated product development environment. This way, product management can simply assign work in Aha! Roadmaps to the right engineering team in Aha! Develop to coordinate what is planned for customers. Unlike other integrations, no data mapping between systems is needed. This is because a record is the same in both tools — so information is always in sync.

Customize the record layout in each tool so product management and engineering teams see only the information that is relevant to them.

Aha! Develop is now available to teams everywhere. Your free 30-day trial starts on Develop Advanced. Go ahead and give it a try — you can purchase any plan later. Develop Essentials costs $9/user/month and Develop Advanced is $18/user/month. If you are already an Aha! Roadmaps customer, contact us to enable a trial of Aha! Develop in your account.

Software development teams deserve a tool with exceptional customization options — so you can ship brilliant software, faster.

We hope to see you at our live product event on August 25. In the meantime, give Aha! Develop a try and let us know what you think. We look forward to receiving more of your feedback. And keep watching for more great new functionality — our product team will be launching new functionality nearly every week.
