New CircleCI Extension for Aha! Develop

by Jeff Tucker

Continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) tools help engineers ship high-quality code faster. But it can be hard to keep track of the build status for your branches when code changes are constantly flowing through your pipeline. It makes sense that you would want to see these statuses in Aha! Develop — where you are already tracking your development work. Today we are launching a new extension for CircleCI that does just that.

Connect user stories in Aha! Develop with their builds in Circle CI — so you can track status and triage failures faster.

Perhaps you already track the status of branches and pull requests in Aha! Develop with extensions for GitHub or GitLab. Now you can take it one step further and track build status too. The new CircleCI extension automatically links your user stories or features in Aha! Develop with their builds and deployments in CircleCI. You can see if the most recent build passed or failed — then jump into the logs in CircleCI to get more detailed information on what went wrong. Now teammates do not have to ask — or wait for a status update — to understand if a user story is deployed, ready to deploy, or in need of some extra attention.

To get started, an account administrator in Aha! Develop can install the CircleCI extension from the extension library. Next, configure a webhook in CircleCI to automatically notify Aha! Develop about new builds. Then add the CircleCI custom field to your user story card layout in Develop. Now you can see the CircleCI details on each user story.

Here is a closer look at what you can do:

Automatically track build status

Once you have installed and configured the CircleCI extension, simply include the Aha! reference number in your branch name or commit message. When you kick off a new build in your source code management tool — or directly in CircleCI — it is automatically linked to your user story in Aha! Develop. In the example below, we can see that the latest build failed. (Rats!) But now we can easily drill in to that build in CircleCI to get more details about what happened.

The CircleCI extension shows every branch that includes the Aha! reference number, along with the most recent build status.

Keep build status at your fingertips — and move work from "Not started" to "Shipped" faster than before.

When it is easy to track your build failures and keep build status green, your team can enjoy the full value of continuous integration. So go ahead and give the CircleCI extension a try. You will love how easy it is to find the build details you need for every user story. Then explore the rest of our open source extension library to find more ways to link Aha! Develop with the tools in your ecosystem.
