Just Launched! — Aha! Integrated With Atlassian HipChat Cloud and Server

Atlassian HipChat provides a group chat platform for collaborative teams. The tool makes it easy to keep distributed groups informed and productive through real-time sharing of information. It also integrates well with other leading SaaS products, like Aha!

Aha! is excited to expand our integration offerings to include HipChat Cloud and now Server versions. This allows you to ensure transparency across your organization by posting important product management information automatically to HipChat rooms.

Think of HipChat rooms as specific chat rooms for individual teams, topics, and anything else you want. You can create open rooms that anyone in your HipChat group can join and private rooms that you can invite specific people to join.

By integrating Aha! and HipChat, you can create as many chat rooms as you would like and utilize filters so key product information is sent to specific rooms. And you can select from 100+ event types in Aha! to customize exactly what strategy, release, idea, and feature updates you see in HipChat so you can easily track all customer requests and changes to your product roadmap.

Ultimately, combining Aha! and HipChat keeps everyone on the team up-to-date on the product without any extra noise. Here are a few ways that you can use these two great tools together:

Track new customer ideas
Create an Ideas room to keep the team informed by automatically tracking new customer ideas. This allows you to stay close to the people who matter most — your customers.

Using filters, you can track all newly submitted ideas from key customers and get notified each time a comment is added or a customer votes on an idea.

Create visibility around new features
A Features room allows you to create visibility around new features, status changes and discussions around features. You can track all new features entered in Aha! which streamlines your ability to track team comments and status updates on key stories and requirements that are important to you.

When you want to dig down into the details, simply click on the feature name or comment and you will be taken directly to it in Aha! from HipChat.

Share important product release activities
Another great example of the power of combining Aha! and HipChat is a Releases room. You can use this type of room to collaborate with cross-functional teams by sharing key information around the most important product release activities.

The team will receive updates based on the product and roadmap planning that is happening in Aha! — event details like Name, Date, and Status are all shown.

Aha! Admin and Aha! Product Owners can configure this integration. It’s worth noting that anyone in HipChat can see the updates even if they do not have access to see the products. Aha! users will be able to click links that come through and go straight into Aha!

You can choose to create one or many integrations at the account level under Account Settings or at the product level under Product Settings. If you create it at the account level, it will send the activity from streams that you configure for all of your products. However, in larger environments, you can maintain greater control and separation of data if you set up multiple HipChat rooms and multiple Aha! activity streams. It’s totally up to you.

Updates are sent from Aha! to HipChat after five minutes to reduce unnecessary noise. That way if someone is editing a feature, changing a status, or revising dates, you only get notified of the final update instead of seeing every single event. For example, if someone made three different text edits to a feature over the span of a few minutes, you would see a single notification in HipChat that a feature description was updated instead of three notifications about the same feature.

You need to be an Administrator in your Aha! account to create an integration at the account level (see screenshot above) and only a Product Owner to create one at the product level. Please be aware that anyone who has access to your HipChat room will be able to see the activity, regardless of whether they have access to that information in Aha!
