Just Launched! — Custom Workflows for Master Features, Features, and Requirements

by Jessica Groff

Every team works in a unique way. There is no universal approach to building product. And no one tool works perfectly for everyone. Unsurprising, given the many different products, methodologies, and company structures. This is why we built Aha! to be wildly flexible — so you can customize our product management software and make it your own.

You can now define custom workflows in Aha! for all record types — including master features, features, and requirements.

You can change any default workflow in Aha! to match your team’s process. This gives you the ability to set best practices and follow a proven framework — no matter how you work.

You could already set custom workflows and statuses for goals, initiatives, releases, features, and ideas. So we wanted to provide the same level of customization for master features and requirements. Now you can create the right workflow for all record types.

Here is how you can set up custom workflows across your account:

Define how you want to work Create your own workflows based on your internal processes. You can customize status names, colors, and transitions for each record type. To add a new master feature, feature, or requirement workflow, you will need to select Add features workflow and types from the dropdown menu. Then, you can apply these different workflows in your product settings.

Select the right workflows for each record type Optimize your processes for different types of work. This is useful because the steps to complete a large work item (like a master feature) can be quite different from a smaller item (such as a user story or requirement). These defined workflows encourage a standardized approach so that the team can work more efficiently.

Choose your preferred workflow for each record type from the dropdown list within the edit workflow modal.

Communicate progress at a glance You can track how work is progressing using predefined statuses. You can also set a custom color for each status. This makes it easy to quickly visualize how work is moving through your process from the features board, roadmaps, and reports.

Update the status of each work item in the details view to show progress.

Please note that if you have integrated Aha! with a development tool (e.g. Jira, Rally, or TFS), any changes you make to your workflow statuses may impact your field mappings. Check your integration configuration to make sure that your status fields correspond correctly.

Custom workflows in Aha! give you the ability to align your roadmapping tool with exactly how your team gets work done.

Yes, we already said Aha! is wildly customizable. This is not hyperbole. Find out for yourself. Learn about everything else you can customize — such as fields, terminology, and preferences — so you can work the way you want.
