We had a problem
There used to be a perception in our company that product ideas disappeared into a blackhole. Suggestions were constantly coming at us from all directions, including emails, phone calls, meetings, webinars, and even in the hallway. We needed to create a consistent intake method to help us capture ideas in one location and provide status updates in a more responsive way. We also struggled with communicating the direction of our product, both internally and to customers. There was limited visibility into what we were currently working on and what we planned to work on in the future. Finally, we needed a better way to prioritize features and decide which ideas to promote in alignment with our overall goals.
Aha! as a solution
We use Aha! to manage more than 15 different product lines. With a different product owner for each, having all of our product information in one location is improving transparency and collaboration across the entire organization.
We use the ideas portal to proactively manage feature requests. After reviewing the suggestions, we create features in Aha! and prioritize them based on how they support each product’s goals. The integration between Aha! and Jira makes it easy to share features that are approved for release with the development team. The team then breaks the features down further in Jira to work on.
Aha! brings transparency to our product management processes. From the intake of ideas through to product delivery, we can now clearly communicate our roadmap every step of the way.
We also create roadmaps at the release level and then publish them as Aha! notebooks. This helps to increase awareness and manage expectations across all of our non-technical teams.
Life is good
Since using Aha!, we’ve improved the way we capture ideas and can quickly respond to new suggestions. We’ve found that the portal also generates open conversation across our community of users, which is exciting to see.
Aha! enables all of our product owners to collaborate in once place — it’s so much easier than trying to coordinate meetings, and it keeps us all aligned on strategy!
The ability to visualize our roadmap across all of our products in one view is proving to be of tremendous value. It helps us to communicate the key themes for each product and gives everyone in the company a 6-12 month look ahead.
