Just Launched! — A More Comprehensive Business Model Builder

by Jessica Groff

Think about your morning routine. I bet you interact with dozens of products and companies within an hour of waking up. I know I do — from checking in with my fitness tracker to brewing a cup of locally roasted coffee. The companies behind each are wonderfully different. But they have at least a few common threads. Like a business model — whether they have documented it or not.

For all of our differences in product and company type, it’s amazing how similar we are when it comes to pursuing success. Because whether you are a new company just starting up or an established company expanding into a new market, you need a business model.

Your business model is the foundation for your strategy. In one view, you and your team understand the opportunity you are pursuing and the mechanics of your operations.

That is why we initially provided the Aha! Business Model Builder. So many of you created business models in Aha! that we were motivated to rethink what was possible. Today, we are proud to give you a more comprehensive template where you can define your key objectives, customer challenges, solution, and how you will Go-to-Market.

The new, uniquely Aha! framework is the most complete business model template we have ever provided. It is based on our 20+ years of experience building breakthrough products and software companies.

We also delivered an additional feature you requested — you can now drag and drop each component into a custom layout. And once you have completed your business model, it is easy to share your strategic plan with your team.

You will only find this Business Model Builder in Aha! — here is how it works:

Build your business model Aha! is where you do your strategic planning. So we wanted to take building a business model to the next level. The new builder allows you to clearly articulate, develop, and pivot your business model on a single page. Use it to create your initial business model or update an existing one.

Articulate strategic building blocks The column on the left-hand side of the screen displays all of the components in the template. Select “Add a component” at the bottom of the list to add your own, or simply use the existing components and fill them in with your data. Select a component to open the drawer view. There, you can edit the description, change the color, or attach files.

Use the drawer view to capture the details of each component in your business model.

Customize the layout In addition to adding strategic building blocks, you can drag and drop components to rearrange the layout. To remove a component from the layout, select the “Hide component” icon in the top right of each block. Note that the component is still available — the action simply removes it from the layout view. If you want to add one back that you have removed, select from the “Show” menu to see the additional components.

Customize the layout of your business model to fit the needs of your business.

Share across teams Once your business model is complete and you have chosen which components to display, share it with your team so everyone understands where your business is headed and how you will get there. Share your business model as an image, PDF, or secure web page.

Select the “Export” button to add your roadmap to a new or existing Notebook.

Your business model will ultimately guide your organization and influence your product roadmap. This is why Aha! gives you the ability to set brilliant business and product strategy and tie both to the execution.
